Implant Restoration

Dental Implants

Dental implants have quickly grown to become the preferred solution to replace missing or extracted teeth. They are a permanent solution, and many dentists consider them to be better than alternatives such as bridges because no additional teeth have to be altered or affected in order to place the new tooth. Dr. Phan is a respected implant restoration specialist in Alexandria, Virginia, and looks forward to helping you restore your smile.

What Are Dental Implants?

The process of placing dental implants occurs over the course of a few months. The very first step is installing the actual implant, which involves placing a screw into the jaw bone. The dentist will make an incision in your gum in order to place the implant. If necessary, we can place multiple implants at once. Once the implant is in place, we will suture the gums to allow them to heal.

It takes approximately 3-6 months for the implants to fully heal. During this time, the jaw bone will form around the implant through a process called osseointegration. Throughout this healing process, we may place temporary crowns in order for you to eat and speak normally, and to maintain the appearance of a natural smile.

Once the implant has healed, we will place an abutment on the implant. The abutment will be the base of your new tooth. After this is placed, we will take an impression of the abutment and use it to craft your permanent restoration at a dental lab. Once the restoration is finalized, we will attach it permanently, restoring your smile back to its natural glory.
